Michael Tavares

Michael is a highly respected life insurance professional based in Montréal. His remarkable track record spans more than 25 years, including 20 in development and promotion in the ultra-high-net-worth market. As President of MSA Financial, he oversees a team of leading experts and leverages his in-depth knowledge of actuarial, advanced life underwriting and life insurance product design.

High performance and flawless execution are the foundation of his success, which is made possible by his uncanny ability to build strong and long-lasting relationships with some of the insurance industry’s most influential executives.

Michael’s outstanding credentials include a variety of highly strategic leadership positions, such as Vice-President of Azzi Financial Group, a position he still holds today; Vice-President, Advanced Markets, Canada, at AIG Canada; and BMO Insurance, where he worked closely with many life insurance advisors across the country.

Michael Tavares has made a name for himself in Canada's insurance and investment sector, commended for his expertise, commitment and unrivalled work ethic. He has distinguished himself as a leading figure dedicated to excellence in an industry where results matter most.

Vice President – Business Development, Advanced Markets

Anthony La Barbera

As Vice-President – Business Development, Advanced Markets, Anthony oversees several strategic aspects of MSA Financial's operations, including advanced case work with advisors, business development and recruiting.

Anthony graduated from Bishop's University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Business Administration, with a concentration in Operations and Logistics. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Operations Management from McGill University and a Six Sigma Green Belt Certificate.

After obtaining his Financial Security Advisor license in 2011, he held the positions of Senior Analyst for Azzi Financial Group, Regional Sales Manager for Sunlife Financial and, most recently, Partner in a financial services firm. Prior to joining the insurance industry, Anthony held senior positions in the industrial gases sector.

Anthony's entrepreneurial experience and emphasis on nurturing strong relationships enable him to offer Advisors a unique perspective.

Hsiao Fen Huang 黄晓芬

Fen joined MSA Financial in 2019. As Vice-President – Business Development and Advisor Training, she plays a multifaceted role in driving business growth and enhancing advisor capabilities. She supports advisors in their sales process using a holistic planning approach by focusing on product knowledge, sales training, client-centricity, technology adoption and continuous improvement by addressing these key areas.

Her extensive knowledge of both the insurance and investment industries enable her to guide and assist advisors in their sales process, encouraging advisors to consider clients overall financial situation including their investments, insurance coverage, retirement planning, and estate planning needs.

Fen has over 30 years in the investment industry serving high net worth clients, complemented by 19 years in the insurance industry. She is a passionate reader and actively promotes education and lifelong learning to stay relevant, updated, and competitive.

Vice President – Finance

Ben Matlin, CPA

As Vice-President of Finance, Ben is responsible for overseeing MSA Financial's accounting and finance functions, including financial reporting, cash flow management, budgeting and forecasting.

Ben is heavily involved in MSA's strategic planning and continued growth, working directly with the company's president and shareholders.

He graduated from McGill University in 2009 with an undergraduate degree in accounting. He passed the UFE in 2012 and obtained his CPA designation in 2013.

After working for a national accounting firm for six years, Ben decided to use his knowledge and experience to work in the private sector, specializing in the real estate industry. In addition to his role at MSA Financial, Ben continues to be heavily involved in the same role with a major local developer.

Vice President – Business Development

Pauline Haddad, A.V.A.

With over 45 years’ experience in the insurance and investment sectors, Pauline brings passion and in-depth knowledge to MSA Financial. As Vice-President of Business Development, she is responsible for developing and growing the company’s relationships and identifying promising market opportunities.

Pauline holds the Financial Planner title as well as the Assureur Vie Agrée designation. Her involvement with the former Association des intermédiaires en assurance de personnes du Québec and the Chambre de la Sécurité financière was driven by her commitment to the success of the Financial Advisor.

She started her career at Montreal Life in 1978. She then spent 8 years at Royal Life, where she held the position of Branch Administrator. In 1995, Pauline started a second career where she honed her skills in the brokerage distribution channel.

Pauline’s energy and expertise are valuable assets to MSA Financial and its network.

Vice President – Marketing and Communications

Stacey Zerdok

As Vice-President of Marketing and Communications, Stacey spearheads MSA Financial’s efforts to promote tactics to drive growth and engage partners through strong programs. A seasoned professional with a keen eye for industry trends, she develops first-class marketing initiatives and creative strategies, and is actively involved in advisor development.

With over 20 years of marketing and leadership experience, Stacey has extensive knowledge in social media, sales and marketing, public relations and event management.

Before joining MSA Financial, Stacey was a senior leader at a national MGA where she oversaw all activities, events and communications strategies in the Quebec market. She also played a key role on the national digital marketing and sales team to engage and remain on trend with the company's core values.

Stacey leverages her insight and strategic vision to understand the needs of MSA Financial’s advisors and ensure that the company responds effectively.
